FAQs - Best Floors for Mobile Homes
Customer Question: We want to remodel an RV and need ideas. What types of floors do you recommend for Mobile homes?
LL Flooring Install Team:
Floating floors are ideal for Mobile Homes for two reasons.
1st, The base sub-floor of these homes are prone to movement or future sagging.
2nd, The sub-floors are usually made of a Particle type board, which may be a high-quality board, but not designed for a lasting nail-hold of traditional nail-down Hardwood floorings.
The advantages of installing floating floors, which can be found among vinyl plank, laminate, and hybrid resilient collections, is that it's not attached to the sub-floor - therefore the new floor will be much less affected by the sub-floor's natural movements, and this type of flooring is much less expensive to install by not having to remove the base floor.
However, a more traditional Hardwood nail-down installation can be accomplished if the Mobile home has a permanent, fixed foundation. In addition, for a lasting nail hold, any inferior sub-floorings should be removed or resurfaced using a minimum 5/8" plywood, 23/32" AdvanTech or 23/32" OSB (Oriented Strand Board)
Also, see below for a waterproof floor with real-wood texture that may be great for your mobile home remodel.
