Make-A-Wish: Q & A with Raegan
Rae’s Bedroom Wish Comes True
LL Flooring was honored to partner with Make-A-Wish® Alaska and Washington to make a dream come true for brain cancer survivor Raegan, with the granting of her wish to have a bedroom makeover. Through our philanthropic program, Lay It Forward, LL donated Bellawood Artisan Coggeshall Oak Distressed Solid Hardwood Flooring to give Rae’s room a beautiful new look.
Raegan’s story is an inspiration to us and we were thrilled to chat with her about her new room and learn more about this special girl.
LL Style: Hi Rae, tell us a bit about yourself!
Rae: I am 13 years old and I am a brain cancer survivor. I had a large tumor, the size of an avocado, located along my brain stem. My doctors were able to remove most of my tumor, but because of the surgery I have lost most of my vision and my balance. I am left with no vision in my left eye and I’m legally blind in my right eye. This happened to me over Christmas break 2019; I was almost 12 years old. I am doing great today; school is no longer a challenge since my tumor was removed. I make the most out of everything and I cherish every second I have in life!
LL: What are some of your hobbies?
Rae: I like to dance a lot, I enjoy exercising to help strengthen my balance and I love interior designing. I also like basketball and volleyball!
LL: How long have you been interested in home décor and interior design?
Rae: I’ve been interested in home decor for about three years now. It started with a game called Bloxburg (by COEPTUS). Bloxburg is a game where you build and design a home from the ground up. This game covers every detail that you can think of--from the house structure all the way down to the fine details of interior design.
LL: Why did you want to give your bedroom a makeover?
Rae: I always wanted to wake up every morning and see the beautiful room I was imagining. And my old room was boring! My dream room always started with hardwood floors instead of carpet. I love the feeling of wood flooring underneath my feet.
LL: What are some of the big improvements to your new room? What are your favorite new updates?
Rae: The biggest improvements are the wood floors, my new daybed, and my custom closet that I designed. And I love the soft pastel colors. My favorites updates are my wood floors, the feather globe light hanging above my bed and the collage wall of pictures!
LL: Is home décor or interior design something you are interested in continuing? What might be your next project?
Rae: For sure! I think a wedding – now that sounds fun…as long as I could have cake! But maybe I’ll start out smaller by redoing our laundry room.
Thanks, Raegan! We love the look of your new room and can’t wait to see your next project!
