Raftyn Rignell and LL Flooring

When it comes to home renovations, Raftyn Rignell has a sense of style that’s been impressing us since day one. Her latest project involved updating the carpet in her recently-purchased lakeside cabin, replacing it with state-of-the-art hard-surface flooring - so we caught up with her to learn a bit more about her design philosophy and what motivated her to choose one of our Duravana Hybrid Resilient floors for this particular remodeling adventure…

LL: Could you give some background on your recent flooring project with LL Flooring?

Raftyn Rignell: We recently bought a lake cabin that was built in the 1930s. We have started renovating certain areas, with my immediate attention focused on the bedrooms. I really wanted to get the sleeping areas in a good spot so when we are at the cabin, we can relax and enjoy it!

LL: What made you want to update your cabin flooring?

Raftyn Rignell: At one point, there was an addition put on, so the original flooring stops, and the rooms were covered in ugly orange carpet. I really wanted the hallway and bedroom area to flow together with one consistent flooring style.

The cabin bedrooms had this look before renovating: wood panels everywhere, with the orange carpeted floors.

LL: What drew you to the product you chose?

Raftyn Rignell: I not only wanted the look of the Duravana Bay Bridge Oak, but also the durability that comes with these hybrid resilient products. Being at the lake, the fact that this flooring is waterproof sold me immediately!

This same bedroom is the perfect place for twin bunk beds after remodel, with stylish navy-green wall color and the blonde wood flair of her new flooring.

LL: How would you describe your design style?

Raftyn Rignell: My main goal is to have a cozy and welcoming space that my family can enjoy! We are a very active family of five, with a large dog, so anything I design has to withstand our daily life. I also love thrifting vintage pieces to add character to our home and cabin.

LL: What’s been your favorite aspect so far of the product and/or process?

Raftyn Rignell: THE BEAUTIFUL LOOK of the Duravana Bay Bridge Oak. I was blown away by how realistic this flooring was compared to real hardwood. There are so many different variations of boards in the boxes that it was easy to get an organic look when laying the flooring. It is the perfect mid- tone oak flooring and I love the natural look of the wood grain and the knots.

LL: What was the installation process like? Any unexpected challenges?

Raftyn Rignell: The installation process was so easy! The click- and lock technology made for quick installation. I am such a visual person, and LL Flooring has so many flooring videos on their YouTube channel and website that were helpful to watch before installation. We had some cuts around the baseboards that were a little more tricky, but I left those to my husband and they look seamless!

Our only unexpected challenge was a section of subfloor that was raised a bit more than the original flooring it butted up with. We took a sander and smoothed it out so the boards would lay flat. The QuietWalk Max underlayment also helped smooth out any imperfections with the subfloor and helped so much with sound absorption. These floors at the cabin are quieter than the floors at our house!

LL: What’s been your experience with the products since installation?

Raftyn Rignell: We absolutely love our Duravana Bay Bridge Oak flooring so much. I have gotten so many compliments on how great the flooring looks. I love having peace of mind, knowing that our family can enjoy the cabin to its fullest without me worrying about water, scratches, or dents to the floors.

Anything else you’d like to share or add?

The floor visualizer was an amazing tool. So many times you see these tools, but they look nothing like the real thing. I was shocked by how much the floor visualizer looked just like the real floor! It made me feel confident that I was choosing the right flooring for our space.
